Waking up the next day I have already felt good resting. I glanced outside to see how the weather was holding and from what I can see it was just murky and cloudy. I knew it would be a week of rain coming our way in Clearwater. I have already though about staying a bit more if I have to to sit and let the heavy rains pass the area.
When I came in yesterday the first thing I noticed about Tito Omar’s house is the patio at the back. It is set on a lake that pass through him. They have mentioned before when I first saw the view f the lake that people even fish there and get fresh tilapia. And sometimes see alligators hide under the mangroves. Water lilies are dominantly the vegetation but I saw the sun coming down yesterday day and I knew I have to catch again today.
We all sat down for late breakfast and talked about how the weather was turning out. The Barzagas were concern on me riding through the rain and asked me to stay as long as I want if I can so its so dangerous riding on the road conditions. I did agree with them and told them I will have to stay for another two days or so to avoid the heavy rains. The weather reported rains for another 7 days straight. I would not consider staying that long since I knew my trip budget was already low. I would have to go where I can get a window of a couple of hours not raining and take advantage of where the clouds would head. Michael was still in his room and Tita Nina has already mentioned to me that he would be off on the weekend. So I knew I couldn’t really leave without trying to connect and catch up with family.
It was already early afternoon and Tito Omar told me to go with them to do groceries and at the same time they will drive me around Clearwater and the towns around it. It was still rainy but it dint change any of the plans and went to drive south of Clearwater to see the beach and boardwalk. Lolo and Lola came along the ride as well. I count believe how Lolo knows most of the streets that we have to pass through. He even memorized landmarks we have to pass by. He would say. “We’re in Keene blvd. on your right you’ll see a church. We probably attended a ceremony there with a close friend. After 5-10 min we have to take a left turn on the light.” I was amazed how he could have memorized most of the roads. Not only that the landmarks and it’s experience with either the area or the land mark he would tell us. With the heavy rains still coming down the town wasn’t as busy as normal but the sights of counting us hotels and just the Mexican gulf as your view was something worth seeing. Tito and Tita were telling me how things have change in how the towns were. It was much more intimate from before and how tourist were flocking in only during the colder season. There would some stretches of hotels but it was predominantly small bungalow houses that was built for rent or rooms made available as cheap motels. Beach and tourists areas were not littered with people. But you can see maybe because of he weather there were not enough people going out and enjoying the sun. But there still some that even with the rain were out in the beach and making the most out of it. We started heading back and it was getting dark and late. Lolo asked Tito Omar if we could stop by at his favorite ice creams shop at the Boardwalk. He has been mentioning the rum raisin ice crime ever since we started driving through the towns close to Clearwater and the shore line. I could tell they have not been out for a while now and I guess they were just excited to be driving around and feel like they were also tourist like me.
We made to John’s Pass Boardwalk and I being enthusiastic about seeing things took pictures whatever I saw. The Boardwalk was filled tourist traps and restaurants. Ranging from boat trips, fishing trips, jet ski, tubbing, and all forms of restaurant that caters to all. We strolled to a small ice cream shack and Lolo offered to pay for the treats. We all had our cups and stayed outside. Tita Nina mentioned “Hintayin nation paalis na yan mga yan” (let’s wait here they will be leaving soon) little that she knew they were actually Filipinos also visiting and everyone just cracked up. They chit chatted a little to bit and offered us to share the seats and table with them. While Lolo was eating he felt like it really more was more on the rum side and boasted he might get tipsy in the ice cream. We all finished our ice cream and headed back home. I was happy to see Lolo and Lola happy and enjoying the short trip we did.

The following day was already Friday and this time around it was Michael’s turn to show me around. The weather has not changed but he was off and he did told me that he will show me around also and treat me out. Coming from work he normally goes to work at 4pm and gets home 1am so I as expecting him to get up late since he did overtime and came home 5am. Surprisingly by 11am he was already up asked me what do I want to do the whole day. I just answered “Your town, up to you.” He then said “Ok let me drive you around and show you some few things then.” We headed out drove around. He took a different road way from what we did yesterday and showed me the Clearwater downtown area. It not as big as any other city but you can see the hotels and high rise condominiums that are near the sea shower and the beach. It was still raining but I was able to appreciate whatever I could see that is different. He even showed me old building and hotels that were built during the early times and Spanish colony. But we did focused more on the Scientology building. Apparently they have a main headquarters in Clearwater and what’s mostly in the downtown are have been bought of the the organization. We talked about writing and illustrations. Michael and his brothers are almost the same with me and my brothers when it comes to interest with arts and creativity. We talked about how he was so surprised that my blog was actually interesting and had a depth for different readers. I was telling in how I used to write in high school and even competed regionally. He does also write and read a lot of material. Michael mentioned that he joins small competitions and even had great reviews and even had an interest on publishing his writings. I couldn’t believe that I was getting a compliment for my writing from a guy that can actually write. I even asked him if he wanted to proof read my blog. As you notice there a lot of mistakes in grammar and spelling. When I do my writing I just keep on trying because I don’t want the story to fade in my head. If I stop and check I would forget the words I am already building up.
It was pass lunch and we then decided to head back and ask his parent to co e along with us to have lunch. We went back home and picked up his parents. Michael wanted to bring me and his parents to this southern cuisine in Clearwater. He has been there before and liked the food so much. This time around the weather calmed down and it stopped raining and made the drive easier. We parked and saw he restaurant with the name “Southern fresh.” We walked in but since it was lunch time and with the rain you could see that anywhere near the are it wasn’t busy at all. We choose a table to fit us four choose to order form the menu. Sir menu is small but I love small menus because you know the kitchen can’t go wrong with fewer dishes to offer. The three of us got the Chechen special and Michael went to order the salmon. You just can’t go wrong ordering fried chicken in a southern cuisine. The waiter then tells us “Just to let you know the chicken takes about 30-40 min to cook would that be ok?” We all basically said it was ok the. The waiter proceeded to the kitchen.
While waiting another table that came before us got their chicken and it look big and fresh. We knew it was going to be worth it while waiting. Then it was our turn to get our orders. Then all of a sudden the table got quiet and everyone was just focused on their food. When this happens you can tell that it’s very good and that were all hungry. After the great meal we all shared our views on the taste and how it was freshly done and prepared.
On the way back home Michael asked us if we wanted to watch a movie. He told us “I really wanted to see Ant Man it should be a good and entertaining movie to see. Do you guys want to do that?” Me and Tita Nina were ok with the movie but Tito Omar wanted no part of it. So then all agreed to drive back first then head. Back out to watch the movie. We got there and movie doesn’t start until another 30 minutes. We then decided to walk around much more and Tita Nina decided to look around and window shop. Got a little ice cream snack to kill time talked much more. When it was close to the time I reminded Michael about the movie and ask if he call his mom to meet us at the movies. We then show up and saw her already waiting. We all went to grab our tickets and for some reason Tita kept on digging her bag for her ticket but to no avail it was not there. We told her she could have lost it and we can just ask the cashier to give us another one. The cashier didn’t seem to recognize us but then goes ahead to call the manager to let us pass.
We actually enjoyed the movie ant man. Me and Michael did some some criticism about the movie but over all it was actually really entertaining. Michael was pretty sure Tito Omar would have enjoyed the movie as well. We went back home and has dinner. I started packing up for the next day and even looked at the weather. So far its still rainy but I saw that there would be a small window of opening tomorrow morning. From 6am till 9am the skies will be clear and no rain forecast until the afternoon. My uncle told me to relax a bit more and if I think I wont make it and hit the rain that I should stay. I told him that it should hold out and its best that I keep moving. The more I stay in one place the more ill loose time and money for my trip. I did explain to him the forecast will be raining for the whole week I just cant stay that long , one way or the other I will have to risk being rained on.
I started doing my laundry to prepare the coming days. From what I have now left for my trip. I knew I can still push more but I rather call it already when I finish the Panhandle. While still arranging my things and finishing some work. Michael goes to the room I was staying and hands me a book “On the Road by Jack Kerovac.” I told him that this would be a great and thanked him for the gift. He just tells me “Just make sure you ride safe and enjoy as much as you can.” After my laundry I called it a night and thought about how the weather would hold out.
