I woke up early and the clouds looked clear from the other night. I message my friend Alejandro to see if was already in town. He then messages me that he will be back at around 1pm. I had a lot of things on my hand so I better make use of the time. I went on to the boathouse and used their laundry system. Most of things are already clean but with the rain showers even majority of my clothes are clean it was wet and damp. So I have to dry it. As much as I didn’t wanna use laundry and just hang it in a clothes line it was still cloudy and the there would be no sun to dry it fast.
When I came back from laundry the ranger stopped by and asked me if I was staying. I told them I might leave soon and asked them if I still need to pay. If for some reason you came in and their office is closed they have a honesty policy in which you have to fill up a form and place money in it and submit in a drop box if you walked in and did not reserve. I arrived at Alejandro’s place and I can tell he barely made it back also. I haven’t seen him in 5 years and it was a lot catching up stories we had with each other. He tells me I have to see the night life at Charlotte. I worked for him back in NYC doing promotions and nightlife. He has always took care of me and I know it will be fun.
He asked me to get ready for dinner and we will be going to a restaurant he owns.. Nan and Byron’s. Its an American styled restaurant set up on the northern part of Charlotte. It caters to mostly college students, fresh graduates and nearby neighborhood.
The food was fresh and it the quality felt like it was very New York standard. Alejandro kept ordering food and beer never stopped. After dinner, he introduced me to one of his partners Patrick. Then a stream of people kept coming in and I found out that they have promoters working for them that Saturday. By the time it was 11pm the restaurant was already jam packed. They did a do set up and drinks special all night. This was an easy sell for the college market and before we left the restaurant almost looked like a frat party with the crowd.

We got out the car and went in 5 church. A restaurant also he owns and but the look and feel is totally different from nan and byron’s. This was set up more like a drink and casual dinner. Crowd is very mixed with yuppies and trendy people from the city. But since it’s late and they don’t have to party ambiance its more like a sciatica scene than party scene. Don’t get me wrong, it’s actually easier to converse with people this way than the party scene.
The drinking kept pouring in and even shots of tequila. Charlotte’s restaurant and bars open late but stop serving alcohol at 2am which I am still not accustomed so much in comparison to NYC. It was almost 12midnight and he then tells me to head to a dive bar with dancing. It was just down a couple of blocks so we decided to head there. He brings in his blondetourage and walk a couple of blocks. He then cuts the line and talks to door person. They waved us in and we were in…. The place looks like a true college dive bar but it was packed from two floors. Everyone was just on the dance and drink mode. And the crowd even if seemed more college crowd most are very easy to talk to compared to NYC which women will just give you a stare. Alejandro then taps my shoulder and gives me a signal to go around. We went around to scout and then after we end up near the stairs he then tells me “let’s get out while we still can and grab some food.” I agreed and we both went out and headed to a pizza place he knows.
The pizza place was packed with people from the night out taking care of late munchies. I told him I got the food just get us a table. The order was very simple and the pizza place has a system of giving you a number to call out when you order is already. Waiting for my order to be ready it actually took about 20 min. It took a while since the wings took time to cook. Alejandro even approached and asked “What kind of pizza you ordered bro? Why they taking so long.” I just shrug my shoulders and told him “I already asked, they sad it wasn’t ready still” finally they called my number and both my pie and wings were ready. We finished our pie went out and hailed a cab. I was already exhausted and once we got home to his apartment I just went to bed straight.
I woke up early with no traces of hangover from the excessive drinking from the other night. Alejandro comes out then tells me “Get ready in 30 min lets go get brunch and the uber car should be here by then.” I then got ready for another great meal. He told me this time we’re gonna head to 5 Church at the downtow area. The brunch was perfect and so was the weather. Alejandro will be heading to Charleston on Monday he was asking me to stay Sunday and leave Monday morning with him. I told him I’ll be traveling today since I know the weather was perfect and I know since it’s my uncles house even if I get there late it’s ok. So after brunch when we got home I started packing my stuff already. Alejandro gave me a new bag since my last one was destroyed when I had the accident. It was torn and was only patched by duct tape. I asked him “can I leave few things with you here and can you mail them back to me?” He told me “Yeah I can do that but make sure your not in a hurry.” Before I was able to ask him again why he then answers “I’ll be in Charleston for 2 weeks so I’ll be able to do it for you in two weeks” I told him “Yes that’s not a problem. I just needed to lighten my load.”
I took off a pair of sweat pants. Two pairs of shirt paired with socks and underwear. I also left my sneakers and fleece with that package. At the beginning of the trip I was more concern on the weather dropping cold and I won’t have the gear for it. But after riding for a month now and talking to the hikers on the trail is son realize I am over weight and need lighten up my load.
I thank Alejandro for taking care me that weekend and left his place at 2pm. From my prediction it will be 12-1am that I will reach destination in Winder, Georgia. I enjoyed my time in Charlotte and the people was just welcoming. I will definitely come back to Charlotte at some point.
