The bike felt like it was before. The power was back and I felt confident again. It was already pass 12 when they finished my scooter and I know it’s gonna be a long road to Charlotte. I told myself “I know I can do it but I’ll be there late. I message an old boss of mine Alejandro that moved already in Charlotte and see if he can meet me. He replies to me that he won’t be in until Saturday. I was already on the way I decided to still push on. There are some close state parks I could go outside Charlotte.

On the road for about 3 hours or so I noticed another thunderstorm brewing up.  I denied it to myself that it was gonna head in my direction. I already a nasty experience in Durham and I knew if it does fall ill be ready for it. The wind picked up and the clouds starting to get darker. I really knew this is gonna hit me any time now. For the next 10 min riding I had to find a shelter ASAP. I stopped in a junction and checked on my phone. Since it stopped sending my GPS instructions for a a couple of turns. To my surprised it died on me.

Now you’ll ask me “how will it die in me if I had all those back up batteries and solar power. The phone was plugged in and was charging but I started the day with almost empty battery already since I had to evacuate early to go to the shop. My plug also is loose so when I hit a bump most of the time the connection gets loosed and kills the charging.

I quickly plugged my phone back to the charger and began taking out my rain gear. I placed my phone on the seat and suited up for the rain. I was determined to go at the rain. I took out my poncho and covered my bag at front. As soon as I got this out the rain just started to fall. It drizzled for a bout 2 min and this kicked in a panic mode. Took of the battery charger at the back. Thinking if this gets wet it won’t charge my phone hence no GPS. I finished wearing my rain gear and in the midst of this all, I placed my helmet on the ground but didn’t realize where it was. It was actually close to the scooter but it tilted and hit the Sena intercom system on my exhaust. I smelled a plastic brining and quickly looked in the exhaust. The Sena system was getting toasted by the pipe…. I took it out and killed off the heated part. But I was late and it did some damage on it. While cleaning it I started to small again burned plastic rubber. This time now it was my rain parts got too close to the exhaust and it was burning right through it. I quickly jumped out of the way from the exhaust and rain just poured. With all this given I just made sure everything got waterproofed and decided to wait on it instead.

I dragged my bag on the with the capote and placed it near the trees to get more protection form the downpour. While I was in my rain gear I wanted to check my phone and see if was charging. To my surprise it wasn’t located on my bag. I tapped my pockets to check and it wasn’t even there. I started panicking since it was raining and I do t want it to be exposed and get wet. If that won’t work I’ll be stuck in the middle of no where with no GPS. I scrambled to empty my bag and still can’t locate it. I went back to the bike and scout the grass near but to no avail I count find it. The rain was still pouring so I decided to push the scooter more deeper near the trees.

I went back to the scooters original location and started kicking the grass to find it. Mind you this was still raining and to make it worst my hone cover was green. I was scourging for 20 min cars passing me on the junctions stops and would give me a sign if I need help. I gladly give them a thumbs up to show its ok cause I know it’s a matter of finding the phone and I would be ok.

The rain has stopped after about 45 min and this time I decided to open all my bags and myack to find it. The 2 bags were emptied but nothing still. My last option was my pack and I knew there was no way I would open it and play things inside. But I had to open it just to check and to my surprise the phone was actually there. The phone slid inside the water protection and stayed there. T must have fell when I was taking out the solar power battery. But it still want saved form the rain. It was on small puddle of water that as collected at the end of the cover and it was swimming there. I wiped it dry and stashed it inside a bag of rice. I tried to turn and you can see the screen had water inside. I quickly turned it off to avoid more damage.

I have no GPS now but the phone was found at least. From where I was I decided to head a certain direction and ask anyone I see. In about 5 min of driving I was able to find someone coming out of a school and flagged her. I told her my situation and ask her if she can at least direct me to Charlotte. She told me to go on one road and from there it will lead me to the main road that goes all the way down to even Georgia.

Took her advice and to make sure stopped at a local gas station about 2 miles from the school and asked the same question. They did directed me to state route 29 as the woman said and wished me luck. My phone at this time was still off. The road became easy and with riding I was almost dried. There were no more turns I have to do. All I need was to follow the road and it will even direct me to downtown Charlotte.

As I approached Charlotte it was dead late. It was totally dark and and thunder stared to rumble again. I was still a good 40-30 min to my next camp site. I was already thinking to stop at a gas station and let the storm pass. But I told myself the linger I wait the rain might get worst and decided to push on more. After about 15 min or riding it strted to rain. I couldn’t stop anywhere this time and all the side shops I saw where I could stopped by offer no cover from the rain. Then the rain just poured out of nowhere. With no rain gear I got drenched till the inside shirt I was wearing. This was as bad as the morning thunderstorm and I just decided and told myself “I am wet anyway might as well push on.”

I kept pushing for another 20 min stopping and going to let the rain calm down. I finally reached my destination. Mc dowel nature preserve. It was already 10pm so I picked a campsite and set up my tent. I was just glad that the rain has stopped at this time. I was still worried though that the thunderstorm wasn’t done yet. In less than 10 min I was able to set up tent. After another 30 min I saw the skies clearing up and decided to hit the bathhouse for a fresher fell and went to bed.
