The most southern part of the U.S.

keywestI didn’t get enough sleep for some reason. I was up all night watching documentaries. The front desk last night told me breakfast starts at 7am so I went down around 8am and the idiot I am started looking for the breakfast table. In my head I was thinking into complimentary breakfast but where’s the food. It took about a minute or two to process and realized you have to pay for your breakfast. I went to the front desk and told them I’ll be checking out. I went back upstairs and gathered my things. I finished setting up my stuff to the motorcycle and set my GPS to my next camp site.

I will be heading to the the Florida keys. And a lot of campers along the way have told me to stay in Bahia Honda. This is almost at the end of the keys but it’s not a bad ride from Miami. Heading out I then decide to replace my motor oil. The last time it was changed was… Never ever since NY. I have basically run close to 1500 miles and i was over due with the motor oil change and a lot of maintenance. I bough the oil and decided to stop at a dry are where I am away from motorist. I don’t have the proper tools to do it but as long as I was able to drain the oil properly I should be good. It took me a while to loosen up the screw because the scooter is not mounted correctly I have to adjust several times using a log underneath it to keep it in one spot. I was satisfied upon draining the oil. Without focusing I grabbed the oil I bought and started to pour it in. Loosing focus while doing these kind of stuff will lead to bigger mistakes and carelessness. And it did. While pouring the oil in I didn’t resealed the drain and as I was pouring it in the other side I was just dumping it back again on the ground. I didn’t realize this until I went around and finished packing again my tools. I though to my self “Hey where’s that screw that’s for the drain?” Then it came to me “if I didnt seal it and I poured in the oil it must have all leaked out.” I looked around me and I was right there was more oil now in the ground than before and the oil you see is new since it’s clear. I was frustrated now and cursing out. No oil means I can’t run the scooter. I am out of options and the next autoshop is another 3-4 miles.

I had no other choice now but to hitchhike. I tried about 20 min but no one seems to be stopping but finally a pick up truck pulls over. It’s actually a government vehicle. I introduced my self and told him what had happened to my scooter. He introduces himself as Gio he works for the parks I. Florida specifically the Everglades. He replies to me “I don’t know if I could really help this is a government vehicle.” I told him “I just need to but motor oil and it’s about 3-4 miles from here.” I can see in his face he wants to help but I knew if he does he might get reported from his job or worst get fired for using an official vehicle for personal use. Then I told him “Gio you should go man I don’t want to put you on the spot and get you in trouble.” He then tells me let me ask my friend that’s near here maybe he can help. Give me your number and he will reach you if he can.” I gave him my phone and thank him for the help. He drives off but after 3 min driving off he slams the brake and reverses the truck. He rolls down the window and tells me “Tell me what you need and give me the money for it I’ll take care of it.” I opened up my wallet and gave a few dollars that I had remaining. I made sure I gave him extra to be sure. He replies “do t worry man you can trust me.” I told him well your taking the last of my cash so it’s fine.” I told him what I need but at the same time I sent him a message also of what I need to be sure. He drives off again and it’s time for me to sit and wait now.

After 10 min or so he then sends me a message that he got it. It he will need to get some gas also so it might take him a few more time. I then replied telling messaging him “I’ve already waited and no one stopped. For you to take more time to do something doesn’t make a difference now. I can wait.” While waiting there was a black truck that saw me in the side and I already stopped waiving since I knew Gio will be back but this truck after passing me for 20 feet slams the break then stops. I gave him a thumbs up message letting him know I was ok. Then the truck proceeded to move again. Another 10 min or so a group of cyclists showed up. They asked me if I was ok. I told a little bit of what happened and told them someone was already helping me. The but he grabs one of his bottles and said “Are you with water also? You can take this if you want.” I thank him again and told him I was already good with the water. I thank them for stopping by and checking and they moved in. A. Outlet more minutes Gio comes back. I thank him and told him he got the right oil. He wanted to stay to make sure the engine starts. I hit the switch and it starts. I thank him again and he said “If it was me on the same situation I hope some else will also stop for me.” I just thank him again asked him if I could take a photo. He declined first but agreed later on and told him it’s really important for me that I get to remember the people who helped me. After the shot I went on my way and so did Gio.

I drove another 5 hours through route 1. This is the only road that goes to the Florida keys. And majority of the road I are only two lanes. There were some stretches along the keys that the I was holding the traffic behind me. I dint wanted to go fast and I stayed at my cruising speed at 45mph. It does open up to 4 lanes which lets cars pass slower moving motorists. The scenes were just amazing. It was bridges after bridges and not to mention there was a 17mile bridge that lead to a state park where I would camping. This bridge was so long my video already stopped filming and I was still in the bridge. My camera can film 30 min of continuous video. I had to turn it back on to finish filming the whole bridge. This certain area also was the first time I’ve seen a minimum speed posted. As you’ve noticed it’s mostly the maximum speed is posted, minimum speed is never posted because there really is t one. What general rule to that is as long as your not obstructing the flow of traffic it’s ok or as long as you stick to the right or if it’s one lane stick close to the shoulder lane you are ok.

I arrive at Bahia Honda. This I would say is the best state park. Your campsite is literally I front of the beach. Most camping near the water was never seen and this is the first time I was able to camp near the ocean. The park was packed and luckily there was 2 more slots open when I walked in.

Arriving at my site I quickly set my my camp and gathered woods for cooking dinner. The rice always takes time to cook so I decided to hit the beach. The sand was great and the beach wasn’t as crowded as usual. The water looked perfect. As soon as it hit the water it was just right and enjoyed every bit of it. When I was satisfied I headed back. When I got back my water location had a visitor, a raccoon. It was trying to drink from the faucet. I approached it and took caution while I came closer. It would stop and continue drinking. Then if I get too close it would run away but soon after he comes back and goes for the water. I was able to take a picture of  it at some point.

There was still day light left so I then decided to see the island for myself. I went to their public beach and discovered a lot of things regarding the Florida keys. There were even old structure from before that wes left and reminded everyone on how progress was done and how easily Mother Nature can just take back easy. I strolled on the some of the hiking trails to get better perspective of the island. I went back to my camp since it was already getting dark. I still have another 40 miles to push tomorrow for the southern most point of the island.

A long time ago, philosopher Ralph Waldo Emerson said, “Few people have any next, they live from hand to mouth without a plan, tadalafil side effects and are always at the end of the day, the parents and teen need to make a purchase is the price. The next day the weather was still holding up. I then went on to push the last 40 miles to Key West. It wasn’t much of a difficult ride. At this point of the Keys the traffic slow down since there are cars on the route that has already build up but I made it there extra early. When I was in Miami and was able to replace the oil I knew I have to put some more. The engine can hold up to more than a quart. Upon reaching key west I then decide to buy more oil just to add on. I added a bit more of the oil in my engine and it seemed fine. The moment I did this and started heading to the southern most part of the U.S. monument, I was already hearing a screeching sound coming from the engine. My muffler was smoking a lot more and the screeching sound was coming from the left side of the engine where the CTV and gears are located. I would stop and see what it was and go at it again.

And there I was the most southern part of the U.S. monument in front of me. There was a massive line of tourist formed behind it. And I intended to take a picture before I start looking for a shop to check the scooter issues. I tried to park but the Monet I tried to the scooter was giving me this problems already and it was getting worst. I told my self “Screw the picture this need to get checked.” I took of wth a cloud of smoke behind me coming from the muffler and went to a repair shop that was close. As soon as I got in the shop moped hospital I told them what issue I had and they informed me they won’t work on my scooter. I asked them for suggestions and gave me two. I looked it up in the map and tried to cal,t hem first before heading there. The first shop said they can take me but he is so backed up it might take days for him to get to my scooter. I then decide to go call the other option. The phone number wasn’t working and this concerned me. This has happened before that the phone did not work anymore because the shop has long since closed or moved out. I researched it much more and to no avail still no information. I then decide I should just ride there and see for myself. The moment I did the scooter just wasn’t going anywhere. The engine was still working but I can tell my gears are not engaging. I was stuck. This problem typically s the belt that drives the transmission. If the engine is running but not engaging it has to be my belt. And from where the noise came earlier it’s 100% it’s the belt.

I pulled the scooter in a side and thought f what I would do and planned it out. The choices were to go to the shop by cab have them pic up the scooter and fix it. Or call a towing company to pick it up and have it dropped by at the shop. I went for the less expensive one and hailed a cab. I told the cabbie where I was going and ask him if he takes cards. He says cash only. I got off and called another one and again same issue. This was already frustrating me and I though I am just wasting more time. I look at the map and it’s about 2 miles plus. I was think “should I push the scooter or leave it.” Two miles walking is already close to an hour walk. With the scooter with me forget it it will take me forever. So I took my valuables and started walking.

The heat was killer walking. It was just directed to you. I didn’t focused much on the issue and was constantly checking the distance because of the heat. It disoriented me so much that I have keep myself busy while walking. After a grueling walk I then arrive at the shop. They had so much scooters at the front I figured am sure they can work on mine. I came in and grated the lady at the front. I told them my problem and asked them if they can help me out. The owner Richard comes in and tells her yeah we can work on it. It not today. I explained to Richard where I was from and what I was doing and he was just in awe. He said where is it and we can try to see what we could do today. I told him where is was located and he asked me. “Ok I ca pick up your scooter but where’s the key?” I checked my pockets and it was no where. My eye just went big and said “Oh wow I lost my keys in my way here” he then tells me “You should head back and retrace your steps or i could just get you another starter of any case you can’t find it.” I told them I’ll leave some of my thing here and I’ll be back. I was cursing to myself for not paying attention. It was another two miles back and stopped into all the stops I did where I sat and rested. After a mile still nothing…. I told my self “if I go another mile it means going back to the shop I will do another two miles.” I just said screw it Toki Doki is lost and gone forever.” I started walking back and I left like I was crushed from a problem to another ever since I got into Miami.

When I got back they still haven’t picked up the scooter. I told them that the keys are already lost I couldn’t do another mile and come back for another 2 miles, it was just too much. Richard the owner then tell me “Ok let me pick it now and while you wait. Why don’t you go to Facebook and look for it in key west lost and found while u wait.” I instantly did it and amazingly it was there posted as found an hour earlier. I was so glad to see the purple stuff toy again. I told Richard that it was found. He then tell me “Ok now that you found it message the guy and give my phone. Tell him to contact me so I can get the keys from him also.” I messaged the guy but nothing. An hour or so have passed and Richard comes back with my scooter. He asked me “Did the guy message you back?” I replied “No not yet.” He checks his phone and then shows me the key he tells me “Is that it?” I replied “Yes sir that’s my key.” He then tells me “The guy that posted it is my friend let me cal, him and il, pick up your keys then.” I was so glad that it was still luck with all the bad luck I was already getting from the last 3 days. He tells his assistant mechanic Donny to work on the scooter while he comes back.

Don’t started working on my scooter after finishing a scooter before mine like 5 minutes. As soon as he opens the cover he then tells me. “Yeah your right it’s your belt,” I knew it was the belt. A scooter CTV belt can last for about 2k miles and I am clearly pass 2k already so it was over due already. He then proceeds to tell me other issues. “You know why your muffler smokes so much after you added the oil? It’s because you put too much oil.” Clearly without proper measuring tools and doing things blindly by myself these things will happen unti I know how to do it properly. Donny then tell me “If your pass 2k miles you might want to change your oil gear,” I replied “Ok do what’s necessary to keep it running.” After half an hour Richard come back with my keys. He then proceeds to tell me “with all your bad luck you still had some luck left in you.”  I thanked him and Donny finished with my scooter. He rode it and tested it. It looked good already. So I started riding out of key west

When they totally finished my scooter it was already 7pm. I barley have enough sunlight remaining and the park would close by sundown. My target is to get into long key which about 90 miles from key west. Then it means I’ll arrive there late and the park will be closed. I didn’t want to happen with me when I was Miami so I wanted to avoid this at all cost. It was already 9pm and I just passed Bahia Honda. There was no chance I will get to long key so decided to go to Bahia Honda. As soon I pulled the ranger just stepped out of the office and I asked him if they can take me. The ranger replies “sorry were full today. Then I told him I was just here this morning but I checked out and ran into some problems in key west. I wanted to see maybe they can make an exception. Since I don’t even have a car or RV to pop a tent will be easy. The ranger still refused and gave me options where to go. He said “Either go 5 miles south or 1 mile north. Your choice.” I don’t wanted to go south again so I went for the 1 mile north. It was 9:30 already and I just wanted the day to be done. I checked in at the sunshine RV resort. They didn’t offer tent camping only RV so I had to pay 90 for my tent. I didn’t even cared at this point I just wanted to take a shower and sleep.

I was able to pick the site and set up my camp. Took a shower and went back in my camp. I passed out that instant. I am sure it was the exhaustion from walking under the sun and just the luck I had to go through.IMG_20150709_182328 IMG_20150709_181106 (1) IMG_20150709_181147 IMG_20150709_181953 IMG_20150709_180229 IMG_20150709_181043 IMG_20150709_181058 IMG_20150709_175054 IMG_20150709_175353 IMG_20150709_180219 IMG_20150710_175758 IMG_20150710_123021DSCN0211DSCN0229DSCN0228DSCN0235DSCN0234DSCN0233DSCN0232DSCN0218DSCN0219DSCN0229DSCN0231DSCN0232DSCN0233DSCN0234DSCN0236DSCN0237DSCN0240DSCN0239DSCN0238
